Double negatives
Level B1 · Unit 16: Grammar mastery · Lesson 2: Who, what, nobody, nothing
In Slovenian, negative words always come with a negative verb. Two negatives don't cancel out; they reinforce each other:
- Nihče ne ve. Nobody knows.
- Nikogar ne poznam. I don't know anyone.
- Ničesar nisem videl. I didn't see anything.
- Nikoli ne pijem kave. I never drink coffee.
- Nikjer ga ni. He's nowhere to be found.
