Saying who you are
Level A1 · Unit 1: Hello! · Lesson 3: Nice to meet you
There are no words for "a" or "the" in Slovenian, so Inženir sem simply means "I'm an engineer".
The little word sem ("I am") likes to sit in second place in the sentence, so both of these are natural:
- Inženir sem. / Sem inženir. I'm an engineer.
- Iz Anglije sem. / Sem iz Anglije. I'm from England.
Add jaz ("I") only when you want to stress it: Jaz sem Mojca, "I'm Mojca" (as opposed to someone else).
